BSC CELS (Cluster for Engineering for Life Science)

Interdisciplinary field focusing on the application of engineering solutions in biomedicine, advanced biotechnology, and life sciences

Overview: The interdisciplinary Bauman SmartBiomed program integrates biomedical engineering with the technologies of the future:

  1. Cell technologies, neuroengineering, microfluidic tissue engineering, and test systems;
  2. Digital twins of cellular systems, AR systems, and digital platforms for biomedical engineering;
  3. Soft biomaterials, functional hydrogels, soft matter physics, and computational physics for biomedical engineering and advanced biotechnologies;
  4. SMART surgical assistants, biophotonics and laser medicine, bioelectronics, intelligent biomedical systems, and biomedical instrumentation.

Objective: The global goal of Bauman SmartBiomed is to create an ecosystem of partnerships, develop competencies, and design world-class educational programs to advance biomedical engineering in Russia and improve human quality of life.

Key Tasks:

  • Fulfilling the mission of biomedical engineering: integrating fundamental research and engineering approaches to develop new devices, systems, materials, technologies, and treatment protocols.
  • Introducing prototypes and experimental setups into laboratory and clinical practice for use in the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
  • Combining expertise and fostering a high level of scientific and engineering work.
  • Providing high-quality and comprehensive peer review of world-class scientific publications in the fields of Bauman SmartBiomed.
  • Building an ecosystem of partnerships for generating new knowledge and publishing it in leading international journals.
